Box Score The Webster University took to the road to take on a tough Millikin University squad and, despite giving it a late scare, fell 3-2 in Decatur, IL, on September 23. Freshmen Drew Quisenberry and Jeremy Statman both scored their first collegiate goals in the Gorloks' loss.
Quisenberry (Morton, IL/Morton HS) got Webster on the board and tied the game at 1-1 at 52:50 in the second, knocking in a loose ball in front of the next. The Big Blue responded though, scoring at 77:55 to go back ahead, 2-1, and then scoring an insurance goal at 79:56 for a 3-1 lead.
Statman (Austin, TX/McCallum HS) gave Webster a chance just 38 seconds later with a shot that deflected off a Millikin defender to make it 3-2, but that would be all the scoring for Webster.
Millikin took a 1-0 lead just 4:44 into the contest. That turned out to be the only goal in the half as Webster trailed 1-0 heading into the locker room.
The Big Blue, a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, came into the contest 2-0 against SLIAC teams, already beating pre-season favorite Westminster College and Principia College. Millikin goes to 6-1 with the victory.
Webster falls to 1-6-1 with the loss.
The Gorloks are home on September 26 to start play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference as they host Principia College (IL) at the Soccer Park. In addition to the soccer action, it will be 'Fuzzy's Tacos' day. A representative from Fuzzy's, a sponsor of Webster Athletics, will be on hand giving out 'free taco' cards.
