Box Score In a historic win for the Webster University women's soccer program, the Gorloks shut out Millikin University, 1-0, in Decatur, IL, on September 23. The victory gave head coach Luigi Scire his 250th win, all coming at the helm for the Gorloks.
Scire entered the 2015 season with the 26th best winning percentage of women's soccer coaches at all levels of the NCAA, at .762. He was 15th for active coaches at the NCAA III level, and was 30th in wins (246) for active coaches. Of the 29 active coaches with more wins, only eight have a higher win percentage than Scire.
In the history of NCAA III women's soccer, Scire was 15th all-time in win percentage and 38th in wins, accomplished in 16 seasons, many less years coaching than numerous coaches ahead of him.
The Gorloks won this game in what has been a hallmark of Scire's, the only coach in Webster women's soccer history, teams...with a stout defensive effort. After a 0-0 halftime, Jodi Kaiping (JR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo HS) scored what turned out to be the only tally in the contest at the 65:49 mark in the second half on a direct kick from 20 yards out. It was Kaiping's first goal of the season and her collegiate career.
Robin Bolme (SO, Smyrna, TN/Blackman HS) got the start in goal for Webster and went the distance for the shut out and picked up her first win of the season. It was Bolme's first career shutout. Bolme faced four shots and made one save.
The Gorloks outshot the Big Blue, 15-4, with the Millikin goalie having to make six saves, and had a 10-0 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
Webster, coming off come from behind win at North Central, a fellow College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin member like Millikin, is now 4-3 on the season. The Big Blue was coming off a pair of wins over fellow SLIAC members Principia and Greenville Colleges and fell to 4-3.
The Gorloks are home on September 26 to start play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference as they host Principia College (IL) at the Soccer Park. In addition to the soccer action, it will be 'Fuzzy's Tacos' day. A representative from Fuzzy's, a sponsor of Webster Athletics, will be on hand giving out 'free taco' cards.
