Webster Dominates Principia, 3-0

Box Score The Webster University volleyball team had one of its more complete matches of the season in a 3-0 win over Principia College (IL), on September 29, at Grant Gymnasium.  With the win, Webster improves to 6-1, setting up another showdown at Greenville College (IL) on October 1.

The Gorloks rolled to a 25-9 win in the first set as Emily Knowles (JR, Belleville, IL/Mascoutah HS), Torie Grassi (FR, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain HS), and Jory Siebenmorgen (JR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) all had three kills.  Knowles added three block assists.  Emma Cabutti (Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) had a team-high seven digs. 

Webster won the second set, 25-10.  Rachel Nelson (SR, Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista South HS) and Emi Beining (SO, Festus, MO/Lutheran South HS) each had three kills, and Nelson had a solo block and a block assist.  Kelsey Hamann (FR, Waterloo, IL) and Katie O'Toole (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) each had six digs.

Webster completed the sweep with a 25-12 win in set three.  Torie Grassi (FR, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain HS) had three kills as six other Gorloks added two kills each.  O'Toole had a team-high 13 digs and Hamann added six more. 

On the night, Siebenmorgen had seven kills, with Grassi and Nelson having six each.  Hamann led Webster with 18 assists and O'Toole had 23 total digs as she inches her way (936) toward the 1000 mark for her career.  Knowles finished with five block assists in the match.  The Gorloks had 41 kills and a .280 attack percentage as a team, handing out 40 assists, and coming up with 71 digs in the three sets.

Webster is 6-1 in the SLIAC, second behind Greenville at 6-0, and the Gorloks evened their season record at 8-8 overall with the victory.

After losing a nail-biting, 3-2, match to Greenville in a tie-breaker last weekend, the Gorloks have a rematch on October 1 in Greenville, IL.  The Panthers were the SLIAC coaches pre-season favorite to end Webster's streak of four straight SLIAC championships.  The Gorloks were picked second.  Webster will have a tri-match at Fontbonne University on October 3, facing the host Griffins and MacMurray College (IL).
