The Webster University baseball team lost at California Lutheran University, 7-5, on March 9 in Thousand Oaks, CA.  The Gorloks got a solid start out of Austin Beccue but were unable to hold onto a four run lead as the Kingsmen rallied late for the win.

Webster was sailing along with a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, when California Lutheran erupted for three runs in its half of the inning and four more in the eighth to go ahead, 7-4.  Beccue (SO, Red Bud, IL/Gibault Catholic HS) started for the Gorloks and had thrown six shutout inninings, allowing just one hit, before being tagged for three runs in the seventh.  Beccue allowed a solo homer and a two-run shot before Trey Tigart (JR, Sikeston, MO/Sikeston HS) was called on to get the final out.

Tigart gave up a double and walk in the eighth, then loaded the bases with a hit by pitch.  Back to back doubles by the Kingsmen scored four and Mitch Stefani (SR, Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley HS) was summoned from the bullpen.  Stefani set down all three batters he faced to end the inning.

The Gorloks tried to rally in the top of the ninth.  Jeff Kammer (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) singled and Jake Celleghin (SR, Westfield, IN/Westfield HS) walked with one down.  Zach Bishop (JR, Marshall, MO/Marshall HSO singled to center, scoring Kammer and sending Celleghin to third.  But that is all Webster would get with the final score 7-5.

The Gorloks had taken a 2-0 lead in the fourth.  Matt Wollnik (JR, Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley HS) was hit by a pitch and Kyle Uhrich (JR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS) doubled to left, scoring Wollnik.  Kammer singled to left, scoring Uhrich to make it 2-0.

Kammer led off the sixth with a solo home run over the right field wall.  Dylan Rajkovich (SR, Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS) walked and stole second.  A Mike Wick (SO, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) single to left scored Rajkovich to give Webster a 4-0 lead.

Kammer wound up 3-4, with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.  Uhrich was 2-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored, and Wick was 2-3 with an RBI.

Beccue went 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and three runs and Tigart took the loss for Webster,

Webster is 5-6 on the season.  The Gorloks begin a three-game series with Linfield College (OR) on March 11, in Orange, CA, at Chapman University.
