The Webster University volleyball team started in the win column with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, on September 1, at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks won 25-20, 25-12, and 25-18 for the sweep.
The Gorloks opened up a 22-11 lead in the first set, before winning 25-20. The teams were tied at 7-7 in the second set before Webster went on an 8-0 run, to take control at 15-7, and coasted to the win. In the third, the teams were tied at 10-10 before Webster gradually put Pharmacy away in the set and clinched the match win.
Torie Grassi (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) led Webster with 12 kills. She had a .345 attack percent on the night. Emi Beining (JR, Festus, MO/Lutheran South) and Jory Siebenmorgen (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) each had seven kills for the Gorloks. Beining finished the night with a .467 attack percent.
Kelsey Hamann (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had 20 assists to lead Webster and newcomer Ashley Robinson (JR, Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) had 18. Katie O'Toole (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) had a team-high 19 digs
Head Coach Merry Graf started her collegiate coaching career at the College of Pharmacy, coaching there five years before taking the reigns at Webster in 2001.
