Gorloks Scorch Red Devils, 3-0

The Webster University volleyball team improved to 5-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 3-0 win over Eureka College, on September 20 at Grant Gymnasium.  The Gorloks rolled to a 15-point win in the opening set and were in complete control for the match.

After the Red Devils took a 1-0 lead in set one, Macee Owen (SO, Tucson, AZ/Empire) served Webster to 10 straight points, including two aces, as the Gorloks took a 10-1 lead.  Webster was still leading by nine at 16-7, when it extended its lead to 20-7 and cruised to a 25-10 set win.   The Gorloks had 12 kills, no errors, and a .462 attack percent for the set.

Eureka led 4-2 in set two, and was tied with Webster at, 9-9, before the Gorloks stormed ahead, 19-11.  The Red Devils wouldn't go easily, but the Gorloks eventually prevailed, 25-19, to take a 2-0 lead.  Webster had more kills in the set (14) but also made seven errors.

In set three, once again with Owen on service to start the match for Webster, the Gorloks took a 7-0 lead out of the chute.  Eureka gained some traction as it put some points on the board to trail, 15-7, but Webster went on a 10-1 run to finish off the set, 25-8, and the match.  Webster had just seven kills in the third set, but only one error and finished the night with a .298 attack percent.

Torie Grassi (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) and Jory Siebenmorgen (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) each had seven kills to lead the Gorloks.  Katie O'Toole's (SR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South led with seven digs and Kelsey Hamann (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led with 13 assists.

The Gorloks have not lost to the Eureka since the Red Devils entered the SLIAC in 2006, going 19-0 versus them.  Webster is 5-1 in the SLIAC and 9-4 overall.  Eureka is now 1-4 in the SLIAC and 3-6 overall.

The Gorloks host a quad on September 24, with Fontbonne University, Westminster College, and Greenville College participating.  Webster will face Fontbonne at 11:00 a.m. and Westminster at 1:00 p.m.
