The Webster University volleyball team improved to 7-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 3-0 win over Blackburn College, on September 27 in Carlinville, IL. With a team-high 21 digs on the evening, Webster's Katie O'Toole moved into third place on the career all-time high digs list.
O'Toole's 1620 total surpassed the 1615 total amassed by Susi Riegel (2003-06). O'Toole's next target is #2 on the list, Crystal Shelton (2004-07) with 1649.
The Gorloks had an easy time taking a one set lead, winning 25-15 in the first. But the Beavers came alive in set two, with the Gorloks having to eke out a 28-26 win to go up, 2-0. Webster then coasted to a 25-14 win in the final set for a 3-0 victory.
Jory Siebenmorgen (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka) had a team-high 13 kills and three solo blocks to lead the Gorloks. Torie Grassi (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) had nine kills. Kelsey Hamann (SO, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had 15 assists and 10 digs.
Webster is 11-6 overall and 7-2 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks haven't lost to Blackburn in volleyball since the 2000 season.
The Gorloks travel to Greenville College (IL) on September 29 and have a week off before hosting Spalding University (KY) on October 7 at Grant Gymnasium.
