Women's Soccer Clinches SLIAC Title For Sixth Straight Year

Looking for its fourth perfect record in conference play in five years, the Webster University women's soccer team moved to 8-0 with a 4-0 win over Greenville University, on October 24 at the Soccer Park.  The Gorloks, ranked sixth in the Central Region, clinched their sixth straight regular season title in SLIAC play with the victory.

In the first half, Webster's Melissa Kasper (SO, Chicago, IL/Oswego) passed the ball back to Carolyn Ries JR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh), who fired it home for her third goal of the year at 12:02.  Kasper would have a hand in three Webster goals.  The Gorloks outshot the Panthers, 10-3, with starting goalie Aly Miller (SO, Middleville, MI/Thornapple) having to make one save.  Webster had seven shots on goal for the half as they entered the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

Kasper scored her ninth goal of the year, at 57:43.  Elena Bloma (SR, St. Louis, MO/Eureka) hit Kasper with a pass to the right of the goal, about 10 yards out, and Kasper lofted it over the goalies' head to give Webster a 2-0 lead.  Brianna Pagan (SR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) popped her fifth goal of the year at 69:58 to make it 3-0.  Kasper again got in on the scoring when a pass from her deflected off a Panther defender to Pagan.  It was Kasper's team-leading 12th assist and 30th point.

Jenn Laaksonen (SO, St. Louis, MO/Fox) scored her ninth goal of the season at 81:38 to give Webster a 4-0 lead.  She is now tied with Chelsea Noser (SR, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) for second on the team behind Joi Wilson (FR, Tracy, CA/Tracy) with 10.  Nicole Bascio (JR, St. Louis, MO/Timberland) picked up the assist, her eighth of the season.

Miller went the distance, making two saves, and improving to 7-0 on the season.  Webster wound up outshooting Greenville, 28-4 in the contest.

Webster is looking for its fourth 9-0 record in the SLIAC in the past five years.  Webster is 8-0 in the SLIAC and 16-1 overall.  Greenville came into the contest in second place in the SLIAC at 6-1 and falls to 6-2 and 12-6 overall

The Gorloks close the regular season with a trip to Louisville, KY, on October 28 to play Spalding University.
