Baseball Finishes Sweep of Eureka, 6-0

The Webster University baseball team completed a series sweep of Eureka College with a 6-0 win, on April 24 at St. John Vianney HIgh School in Kirkwood.  Brett Jungles, making his first start of the season, went the distance as he shut out the Red Devils.

In the Webster first, Eric Outlaw (FR, Park Ridge, IL/Maine West) walked with one out and took third on an errant pick-off throw.  With two out, Matt Wollnik (SR, Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley) singled him home and Ben Dinter (Jr, Gurnee, IL/College of Lake County) doubled Wollnik in for a 2-0 lead.

The Gorloks added a run in the third.  Kyle Uhrich (SR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves) reached on a fielder's choice, forcing Conner Wardlaw (JR, Arnold, MO/Jefferson College) who had singled.  Uhrich took second on a passed ball and Wollnik followed with a double to make it 3-0.

Adam Naliwajko (JR, Mt. Prospect, IL/St. Viator) led off with an infield single in the fifth and Wardlaw singled down the right field line, with Naliwajko taking third.  Outlaw laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, scoring Naliwajko and moving Wardlaw to second where he was stranded, but Webster led 4-0..

In Webster's eighth, Uhrich singled and Wollnik reached on a fielder's choice.  Dinter singled to left, and both runners advanced on a ground out.  With two down, Zach Bishop (JR, Marshall, MO/Marshall) singled up the middle to score two more insurance runs as Webster led, 6-0.

Jungles (SR, Naperville, IL/St.Francis) had an outstanding effort on the mound, giving up just four hits, walking one, and striking out 10.  He is 2-1 on the year with the complete game shutout.

Wollnik was 2-4 with two RBIs, a double and two runs scored.  Dinter was 2-4 with an RBI, double, and run scored, and Bishop was 1-4 with two RBIs.

Webster is now 12-2 in the SLIAC and 22-9 overall on the season.  The Gorloks host Blackburn College (IL) on April 25 for a double header at St. Louis University.
