The Webster University women's tennis team dropped its first head to head match of the year, losing to Franklin College (IN), 8-1, on September 10 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center. Despite
Monica Behrle's win at #1 singles, the Grizzlies overpowered the Gorloks.
Behrle (Atlanta, GA/East Paulding), who came into the match in third place on Webster's career singles wins list, moved into a second place tie. Behrle and Lindsay Hays (2010-13) each have 55th career wins. Allison Tungate (2009-12), tops the all-time list with 58. Behrle had 51 wins entering her senior year and is now 4-0, having picked up three singles victories in the Webster Invitational earlier this fall. Behrle won her first set handily, but fell 4-6 in the second to send the match to a tie-breaker. She dispatched her opponent in the tie-breaker, 10-4, for the win.
Webster had entered the singles competition in a 3-0 hole after going winless in the doubles.
Jesse Steffens-Willis (SR, St. Louis, MO/Rockwood Summit) and newcomer
Maggie Federhofer (FR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) battled at the #2 singles before falling, 8-5.
The Gorloks have an exhibition match vs. Lewis & Clark Community College at Godfrey, IL, on September 17, then will participate in an ITA Regional at Oberlin College (OH) on September 22-24. The full Franklin results were:
