The Webster University volleyball stayed undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 win over Spalding University, on September 15, at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks had their fourth sweep in SLIAC play on the season as they extended their win streak to five.
Webster battled the Golden Eagles in the first and third sets, easing through the second, en route to the sweep. Webster won the first set, 25-21, ran away with the second at 25-12, the outlasted Spalding in the third, 25-22 for the win. The Gorloks finished the night with a .243 attack pct, knocking down 34 kills while making only nine attack errors in the match. Webster had its best effort in the second set, with 13 kills and a sparkling .393 team attack pct.
Torie Grassi (JR, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) led the way with nine kills and hit .500 for the evening. Kelsey Hamann (JR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) had 18 assists Hamann has 1051 career assists, and has moved into eighth place on Webster's all-time high list. Samantha Kruse (FR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led the Gorloks with 12 digs and added four kills and three block assists in the match.
The Gorloks are 5-0 in the SLIAC and 5-3 overall. Webster travels to Greenville College on September 16 to play Iowa Wesleyan University and Greenville. The Gorloks host Illinois College on September 19 at Grant, then resume the 'Battle of Big Bend' when they travel to Fontbonne University on September 21.
