Volleyball Finishes Wash U Invite With Loss

Box Score The Webster University volleyball team lost its final match of the Washington University Invitational, 3-0, to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (IN), on September 2, in Clayton, MO.  The Gorloks wound up 0-3 for the tournament in the competitive field, after a near miss upset of the 15th ranked team in the nation in their first match.

Webster hung close in the first set, losing 25-19.  The Fighting Engineers muscled up in set two, winning 25-10, before taking the third set and the match, 25-17.

Torie Grassi (JR, St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) led Webster with nine kills in the match.  Kelsey Hamann (JR, Waterloo, IL) had a team-high 14 assists while Maria Soffner (JR, Creve Coeur, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) had 15 digs.  Freshman Kristen Farrah (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) pitched in with 12 digs.

Emi Beining (SR, Festus, MO/Lutheran South) led the way defensively, with a block solo and the three block assists.

Webster starts the year 0-3 and has its home opener on September 6 vs. Iowa Wesleyan University at Grant Gymnasium.  The match will also open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
