Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener, 2-1, Over Benedictine

Box Score The Webster University women's soccer team won its home opener, 2-1, over Benedictine University, on September 2 at the Soccer Park in Fenton, MO.  The Gorloks grabbed the lead shortly before halftime and made it stand up as they start the season 2-0.

Webster had taken a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal by Olivia Osterhage (SO, St. Louis, MO/Eureka), who buried a through ball from Chelsea Noser (SR, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) at the 18:14 mark.  The Eagles got on the board at 21:50 on a blast off a free kick, from just outside the box, that snuck under the crossbar out of the reach of Gorlok goalie Aly Miller (SO, Middleville, MI/Thornapple).

But the Gorloks took the lead for good when Osterhage lifted a corner kick into the box, and freshman Joi Wilson (Tracy, CA/Tracy) flicked it just inside the goalpost for her first collegiate goal at the 38:00 mark.

Miller wound up with the win and is 1-0. Abbey Mercer (SO, Granite City, IL/Granite City) took over in the nets in the second half and kept the Eagles off the board.

Webster had a 19-7 advantage in shots on the evening, and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Gorloks travel to Chicago to play Concordia University on September 4, then head back up to the Windy City on September 10 to play Elmhurst College.  They hit the road one more time on September 15, to play Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA, before returning to the Soccer Park on September 17 to face Hendrix College (AR).
