Webster retook the lead in the fourth on a walk and stolen base by senior designated hitter
Dakota DeFreitas (Brechin, Ontario/John Wood CC) and an error by Ary in left field on a dropped fly ball that allowed DeFreitas to score an unearned run.
The Red Devils, though, would take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Sean Green and bases loaded walk issued by sophomore reliever
Shane Donovan (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) to Mullin that gave the Red Devils the lead. Donovan was the third Gorlok pitcher of the inning as freshman
Jake Anderson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook), who made his first career start, opened the frame as he allowed three hits and recorded two outs and then freshman
Sean Beaver (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) relieved Anderson and walked the only hitter he faced, before Donovan replaced him.
In his first career start, Anderson earned a no-decision as he pitched 3.2 innings and allowed six hits and four runs (three earned), while walking three and fanning one.Â
Eureka extended its lead to 5-3Â in the fifth inning thanks to two singles, a walk and an RBI groundout.Â
Webster would begin its comeback in the sixth inning as they scored an unearned run thanks to an error by Eureka third baseman Ethan Gates, one of his three errors in the game. Gates' error allowed sophomore catcher
Joe Swanson (Park Ridge, Ill../Maine West) to reach base to lead off the inning. Swanson would eventually score on a run scoring single to center by Kent to bring the Gorloks within a run at 5-4.
The Gorloks would retake the lead in the seventh inning as they scored two runs thanks to three hits and a Red Devils errors. In the inning, Swords led of the frame with a single, moved to second on an groundout by junior pinch hitter

When the game resumed on Sunday, Eureka would tie the game in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single to left by Ary off of sophomore
Matt Mulhearn (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic), who relieved Donovan at the start of the inning.Â
Donovan threw 3.1 innings and allowed three hits and one run, while walking three and fanning one.Â
Webster would retake the lead in the ninth thanks to hits by Strohm and Wardlaw and a throwing error by Gates on Wardlaw's hit that allowed Strohm to score an unearned run.Â
Mulhearn would retire the Red Devils in order in the ninth to seal the Gorloks win and also help him pick up his fifth win of the season. Mulhearn (5-2) earned the win as he pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit and one run, while striking out of the eight batters he faced.
Mason Diederich (1-2) took the loss for Eureka as he pitched 3.2 innings and allowed five hits and three runs (two earned), while walking one and striking out five.Â
In the game, the teams combined to walk 11 times and leave a combined 22 runners on base as Webster stranded 13 runners and Eureka left nine runners on base.
Carter had three of Eureka's 10 hits, while Green scored two runs and Ary and Mullin each had 2 RBIs in the loss.
Meanwhile, in Sunday's regularly scheduled series finale, both teams received complete game pitching performances from their starters as Webster senior
Austin Beccue (Red Bud, Ill./Gibault Catholic) and Eureka's Joe Quinn battled each other on the mound.
Beccue (1-1) took the loss as he pitched his first career complete game as he allowed six hits and two runs and struck out a career high tying five in eight innings of work, while Quinn (1-1) was just as good as he allowed three hits and one run, while walking four and fanning four in his complete game victory.
Both teams scored in the first inning as Webster used a two--out double by Kent and an RBI single from Dinter to plate its first and only run off of Quinn, while Eureka took advantage on a Staker error at shortstop and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mullin to tie the game.Â
Over the next six innings, Beccue and Quinn wouldn't allow a run and only allowed a total of seven hits and had only one base runner reach third base.Â
Webster, though, did have a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning as senior centerfielder
Mike Wick (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) walked with one out, stole second and then stole third and after Strohm walked, he stole second to put runners on second and third with two outs. Quinn would then walk Swanson to load the bases, before he got out of the jam by inducing Staker to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning with three runners on base.
The Red Devils would put two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a single and catcher's interference by Swanson, but would leave those runners stranded as Beccue forced Ray Vogel to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
With the score tied at 1-all heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Mullin hit a one-out homer over the wall in left center to give the Red Devils a 2-1 lead.Â
In the ninth, Quinn would retire the Gorloks in order to seal the win and prevent a series sweep by Webster.Â
Tholl, Kent and Dinter each had hits in Sunday's series finale for the Gorloks.Â
Ary and Evan Smith each had two hits for Eureka in the win.Â
