Three Goal First Half Leads Men's Soccer to 4-0 Win Sunday Over Hendrix

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Webster University extended its win and shutout streak to seven consecutive matches this season here Sunday afternoon as the Gorloks posted a 4-0 victory over Hendrix College at Rhodes College Soccer Field.

The win improved the Gorloks to 7-0-0 on the season and extended its non-losing streak to a school record 18 consecutive matches dating to last season. The previous school record for consecutive non-losing streak was 17 set by the 1999 squad that opened the season 15-0-2.

Webster currently has either won or tied its last 18 matches and has posted a 15-0-3 record and hasn't lost since falling 5-2 at Illinois Wesleyan on Sept. 26, 2017.

Along with having won or tied its last 18 matches dating to last season, Webster has also opened this season having posted a school record seven consecutive shutouts to open a season.  In fact, Webster has gone eight straight matches without allowing a goal in regulation play as they fell in penalty kicks to Principia in last season's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

In Sunday's win, four different Gorloks scored and Webster outshot Hendrix, 16-7 and held a 9-4 edge in shots on the goal in the victory. The Gorloks had eight shots apiece in each half.

Freshman forward Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove) tallied the first goal of the match in the 17th minute as he took a pass from junior midfielder Edin Mehmedovic (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) and scored his third goal of the weekend and team-leading fourth of the season.

In the 21st minute, junior defender Chris Clay (Quincy, Ill./Millikin) took a pass from sophomore midfielder Joacquin Soto (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff) and tallied his second goal of the season to give Webster a 2-0 lead.

Freshman midfielder Cody Ruhl (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) recorded his first collegiate goal in the 34th minute off an assist from sophomore forward Ben Aziz (Paris, France/Marquette). Ruhl's goal gave the Gorloks a 3-0 lead.

Junior defender Juan Garcia (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) would find his way into the scoring column as he scored an unassisted goal in the 84th minute off a penalty kick after Hendrix goalkeeper Aaron Sahlmann earned a red card at the 84:57 mark. The goal by Garcia was his first collegiate goal in his third season as a Gorlok.

Freshman goalkeeper Matt Coffey (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) made his collegiate debut in the net for the Gorloks as he pitched a shutout. He finished the match with four saves and faced just four shots in 90 minutes of action.

Coffey started in place of sophomore goalkeeper Matt Amick (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) played the first six matches this season and has yet to allow a goal in 540 minutes and has recorded 24 saves on the year.

Webster is one of just three NCAA Division III men's soccer programs that have yet to allow a goal this season as they are joined in that category by Mount Union and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College.

Sophomore midfielder Logan Takizawa (Holualoa, Hawaii/Konawaena) led the way for the Gorloks with three of their 16 shots, while sophomore forward Jacob Ridenhour (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) added two shots in the win. In the match, Webster had 13 players record at least one shot.

Hendrix (3-4-0), who had seven shots on the day, was paced by two shots from Jack Butler.

Sahlmann took the loss in the net for the Warriors as he allowed three goals and had five saves. Lamar Curtis, who replaced Sahlmann when he got his red card, allowed Garica's penalty kick goal.

The Gorloks will look to make its eight straight wins this coming Wednesday, Sept. 19 as they host Millikin in a 7 p.m. match at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
