WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University closed out its fall schedule here Saturday afternoon by posting a 5-1 win over Fontbonne at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.
Both teams weren't able to field complete teams on Saturday as neither team had players available for No. 5 and No. 6 singles, along with No. 3 doubles.
In the matches that were played, Webster won four of them, while Fontbonne's only win came at the No. 4 single spot as the Gorloks only had three players available to play singles so that gave Lakayline Davis a win by default.
In doubles, senior
Sara Rice (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour)Â and freshman
Emma Ferguson (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot, while freshman
Navone Armstrong (St. Louis, Mo./McCluer North) and senior
Hannah Muren (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) picked up an 8-0 win at the No. 2 spot.Â
Meanwhile, in singles action, the Gorloks won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles to seal its 5-1 exhibition win.Â
At the No. 1 singles spot, Rice picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Morgan Murphy, while Ferguson earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot over Becky Kottmeyer and Armstrong won by identical 6-0 scores at the No. 3 spot over Philyce Webb.Â
Davis, though, would score the Griffins' lone point of the match as she won by default at the No. 4 singles spot.Â
The Gorloks, who will have its full compliment of players in the spring season, will open its spring schedule in either late February or early March as the schedule has yet to be finalized.
