Men's Soccer Match Saturday at Spalding Tabbed SLIAC Game of the Week

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Saturday's men's soccer match-up in Louisville, Ky., between Webster University and Spalding University has been tabbed as this week's St. Louis  Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Game of the Week. Saturday's match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. CT kickoff at the Athletic Fields Complex on the Spalding campus. 

Saturday's match features a match-up between two of the current undefeated teams in SLIAC men's soccer, in addition, it will also be a match-up between the top two teams in the league according to the league's preseason coaches poll. In the preseason poll, Webster was tabbed to win the SLIAC title, while Spalding, who is the defending regular season league champion, was tabbed to finish second in the preseason poll. 

Webster, who plays at home on Wednesday against Iowa Wesleyan, enters this week's action sporting a 7-2-1 overall record and is 1-0 in the league following its 7-0 win on Saturday at Eureka, while Spalding, who hosts Westminster (Mo.) College on Wednesday, enters the week sporting a 7-2-2 overall record and is 1-0 in league play after its 2-0 home win on Saturday over Fontbonne in its league opener.

This week's Game of the Week is a meeting between two of the current undefeated teams in SLIAC men's soccer when Webster University visits Spalding University on Saturday, October 12. Webster is currently 7-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SLIAC while Spalding is 7-2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Spalding faces Westminster on Wednesday while Webster plays Iowa Wesleyan before Saturday's showdown. 
Spalding University 'GOLDEN EAGLES'      
Spalding features the most potent scoring attack in the league, totaling a league-leading 31 goals this season.

The Golden Eagles are led by the dynamic Kornell Hilliard who has already buried the ball 9 times this season. Joining him in the attack are Mani Bakari and Omar Mukoma, who have each scored 4 goals and 2 assists this season. Mirza Ugarak leads the team with 5 assists.

In net, Spalding has Trevor Massa. Massa has played nearly every minute and holds a 0.71 goals-against average with 52 saves and two shutouts.
Webster University 'GORLOKS'      
The Gorloks are once again one of the top defensive teams in the SLIAC, but this year also rank 2nd in goals scored. They have allowed just 6 goals this season, while netting 20.

Webster has a balanced attack with six players having at least 5 points. Sophomore forward Aamahn Murvin (Sahuarita, Ariz./Walden Grove) leads the team with 9 points on 4 goals and 1 assist. Junior forward Ben Aziz (Paris, France/Marquette) and senior midfielder Juan Garcia (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) have each totaled 3 goals, while junior midfielder Hunter Olaso (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii/Kealakehe) has recorded 3 assists.

Defensively the Gorloks are led by two-time SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year senior defender Justin Schmidt (St. Louis, Mo./Metro). The team rotates between two keepers - junior Matt Amick (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) and sophomore Matt Coffey (Eureka, Mo./Eureka), who have combined for 34 saves and a 0.57 goals-against average.
Series History
Webster leads the all-time series against Spalding 7-3 although Spalding has won three of the last four including last year's 2-1 win at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
