WEBSTER GROVES - Webster University Volleyball closed out its 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule here Saturday by picking up victories over both Eureka College and Fontbonne University at the Webster Quadrangle held at Grant Gymnasium.
The Gorloks opened its own quadrangle by posting a three-set win over Eureka (25-6, 25-14, 25-11) and then concluded the four team event with a five-set win over Iowa Wesleyan (19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 15-8) to improve its record to 17-10 overall and 14-4 in the SLIAC.
With the two wins, Webster solidified its hold on third place in the SLIAC and will open SLIAC Tournament play next Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. against No. 2 seeded Westminster (Mo.) College in Greenville, Ill. Greenville will open the tournament with a 2 p.m. match on Saturday against No. 4 seeded MacMurray. The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the winner of the tournament earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.
In Saturday's two matches, the Gorloks hit a combined .243. including hitting .326 against Eureka and recorded 108 kills, had 15 aces and on defense, the Gorloks had 154 digs, including 104 digs against Iowa Wesleyan and they held their two foes to a combined attack percentage of .077, including limiting Eureka to an -.106 attack percentage.
Leading the way offensively for Webster on the day was freshman outside hitter
Lauren Borik (Belleville, Ill./Althoff), who had 29 kills and hit .386, while junior middle hitter
Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Carl Sandburg College) had 23 kills, seven blocks and hit .440 and senior right side hitter
Sarah Jacobs (Carbondale, Ill./Murphysboro) had 12 kills, eight digs and six blocks.

Kristen Farrah (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) paced Webster's defensive effort with 43 digs, including recording 32 digs in the win over IWU. With those 32 digs, Farrah set a new career mark for digs with 1,932 and bettered old school mark of 1,929 which was set by Katie O'Toole from 2013-16. Farrah also added 11 digs in the match against Eureka and has now recorded double-digit digs in 62 consecutive matches.
In addition to Farrah, sophomore defensive specialist
Kyra Gensel (Clarkton, N.C./Harrells Christian) added 24 digs, while senior setter
Jenna Rodriguez (Smithton, Ill./Freeburg) had 21 digs and handed out 34 assists and had double-doubles in both matches as she had 11 assists and 10 digs against Eureka and tallied 23 assists and 11 digs against Iowa Wesleyan.
Against Iowa Wesleyan (10-19 overall, 6-12 SLIAC), the Gorloks had 69 kills, five aces, 104 digs, five blocks and hit .205, including hitting over .200 in four of the five sets. The match was Webster's first this season in five sets as the Gorloks are now 1-4 in 5 setters on the year.
Borik paced the Gorloks with a season high 19 kills and hit .289, while Price added 15 kills, three block assists and hit .389 in the win. Along with Borik and Price, Jacobs had nine kills and seven digs.
Rodriguez set the table for Webster's offense as she had 23 assists, 11 digs and hit .375, while junior
Emma Larson (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West) had 19 assists and 10 digs for her sixth double-double this season. The double-double by Rodriguez was her team leading 12th on the year.
Along with Farrah's 37 digs, Gensel and Rodriguez each had 15 digs, while sophomore outside hitter
Peyton Eikel (Dardenne Prairie, Mo./Liberty) tallied a career high 13 digs and Gensel had 13 in the win.
IWU was paced by Lida Landre's 16 kills, while Anna Leidl had 10 kills and Paige Kammerer tallied nine kills and 26 digs. Jenna Murphy paced the Tigers defense with 36 digs and Kammerer had five of IWU's eight aces.
The Tigers hit .176 in the match and recorded 48 kills, 47 assists, eight aces and tallied 104 digs in the loss.
Meanwhile, against Eureka, the Gorloks had 38 kills, 10 aces, 50 digs, five blocks and hit .326, including hitting .400 in both the first and second sets.
Borik paced the Gorloks with 10 kills and hit a career high .750, while Price and junior outside hitter
Samantha Kruse (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) each had eight kills and hit a combined .342 as Price hit .571 and Kruse hit .208. In the match, five Gorloks hit over .300 against the Red Devils.
Defensively, Gensel and Farrah each had 11 digs, while Rodriguez added 10 digs and had 11 assists and hit .429 as she also recorded three kills and had five of WU's 10 aces.
The first set belonged to Webster as the Gorloks jumped in front 12-0 with Rodriguez serving all 12 of those points and WU cruised from there as the Gorloks posted a 25-6 set win. In the set, WU hit .400 as they have nine kills and six aces, while EC hit just -.167.
In the second set, Webster scored the first five points, before EC responded with a 5-2 run to pull within 7-5. The Gorloks, though, would respond with a 12-5 run to push its lead to 19-10. The run was capped by kills from Price, Jacobs and Kruse respectively. After a service error by freshman setter
Sydney Thomas (Troy, Ill./Triad) stopped the Gorlok run, Webster would close the set by scoring six of the final nine points to earn a 25-14 win. In the set, WU hit .400 and had 15 kills, while EC hit -.032.
The third set would once again be dominated by the Gorloks as WU jumped in front 4-0 and led by as much as 24-8, before EC would score three straight points to pull within 24-11. Price, though, would seal WU's 25-11 set win with her fourth kill of the set. In the set, WU had 14 kills, including Kruse (5) and Price (4) combining for nine of those kills. WU hit .238 in the set, while EC hit -.128.
Ariel Campbell paced Eureka with seven kills and 11 digs as the Red Devils played with just six players in the match.
Eureka hit .-108 in the set and is the second consecutive opponent to record a negative hitting percentage and third time this year that WU has held an opponent to a negative attack percentage.
In addition, the six points scored by Eureka were the fewest allowed by the Gorloks in a set since limiting Fontbonne to seven points in the second set against the Griffins on Sept. 30. Webster won that set 25-7.
The Gorloks will conclude the 2019 regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 as they host Illinois College in a 6 p.m. non-conference match at Grant Gymnasium.
