HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Webster University continued play here Wednesday in the 2019 Spring TennisFest by dropping a 9-0 decision to the College of Wooster at the Hilton Head Resort.
With the setback, Webster falls to 2-5 on the season and is now 0-3 on its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, while the College of Wooster improves to 5-1 on the year.
In Wednesday's match, the Fighting Scots opened play by winning all three doubles matches as they dropped only two of the 27 games played, including posting an 8-0 win at the No. 2 spot over WU's tandem of freshmen
Emma Ferguson (Troy, Mo/Troy Buchanan) and
Addie Struckman (O'Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell).
The other two doubles matches were won by Wooster by identical 8-1 scores.
Meanwhile in the singles action, the Gorloks managed to win only seven games against the Fighting Scots, including winning two games each at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles spot. At the No. 6 singles spot, freshman
Jasmine Willis (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) won a game in the opening set, 6-1, before falling 6-0 in the second set.
At the No. 1 spot, sophomore
Maggie Federhofer (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) fell 6-0 in the first set, before winning two games in the second set as she fell, 6-2 to COW's Qingyue Li.
In No. 4 singles, Struckman took a game in each set off of Laura Haley as she fell 6-1, 6-1 and freshman
Liz Gerger (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell Central) also took a game in each set off of Meklit Minassie at the No. 5 spot.
Wooster won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The Gorloks will look to snap four match losing skid on Friday, March 15 as they conclude play in the Spring TennisFest with an 8:30 a.m. EDT match with Earlham College at Chaplin Park Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C.
