Murvin’s Game Winner Lifts Gorloks

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – This afternoon the Webster University men's soccer team took the field when they traveled across the river to take on the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers in a battle between the top two teams in the SLIAC conference. The Gorloks defeated the Beavers by a final score of 2-1 to improve to 14-1-1 on the season and 10-0-1 in SLIAC play. With the loss, the Beaver fell to 10-7-1 on the year and 7-3 in conference play.

The Gorloks out shot the Beavers 26-12 in this one as they posted 10 shots in the first half and 16 shots in the second half. They were able to put nine of those shots on target compared to just three from Blackburn. Webster also created 11 corner kick opportunities while allowing just four to the Beavers.

After finding themselves trailing 1-0 late in the first half, the Gorloks were able to find the equalizer with seven minutes to play in the frame. James Carr had the goal for the Gorloks as he was able to finish off a cross from Chase Boushard for his second tally of the season. The assist was Boushards third of the year.

The score remained tied to start the second half, but the Gorloks were able to take their first lead of the game in the 59th minutes. Aamahn Murvin had the goal for the Gorloks as he headed in a cross from Mark Moore for his team leading 14th goal of the year. Mark Moore's assist was his fifth of the season.

Matt Coffey was in goal for the Gorloks as he made two saves in the contest to improve his overall record to 13-0-1 on the year.

Webster is back in action on Saturday, October 23rd when they travel to Eureka, Illinois, to take on the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils in a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
