Nelson Records Fourth Triple-Double in Sweep

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University volleyball team was back on the court when they played host to the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for their final game of the regular season. The Gorloks swept the Blue Jays in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 27-25) to improve to 12-13 on the season and 6-6 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. With the loss, Westminster falls to 13-15 on the season and 9-3 in conference play.

The Gorloks played well in this one as they finished the match with 41 kills and a .141 attacking percentage. They added three service aces, seven blocks, 38 assists, and 59 digs. They held the Blue Jays to 36 kills over three sets and a .067 attacking percentage.

The Gorloks came out in the first set and found themselves trailing 8-4 early in the game. They picked it up as the set progressed and went on a 11-3 run to take a 15-11 lead. They continued to play well down the stretch and never let the Blue Jays back in the game as they cruised to a 25-20 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

They carried over their momentum into the second set as they jumped out to a 7-3 lead. The Blue Jays tied the score at 11 and the game remained close for most of the set. With the score tied at 23, Webster was able to pick up the final two pints of the game to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Westminster came out in the third set and took it to the Gorloks early as they jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Webster found themselves trailing for most of the game but were able to claw their way back in it and tie the score at 23 late. They had all the momentum at that point and were able to outscore the Blue Jays 4-2 down the final stretch to solidify the sweep.

Mary Nelson led the way for Webster as she recorded 10 kills, 10 assists, and 13 digs for her fourth triple-double of the season. Lauren Borik also had a nice game as she finished with nine kills and 13 digs. In addition, Ali Spohr finished with 10 kills, Emma Leppien finished with a team high 19 assists, and Kyra Gensel added 13 digs to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.

The Gorloks have solidified the fifth seed in the SLIAC Volleyball Tournament. They will travel down the road to Fontbonne (Mo.) University to take on the fourth seeded Griffins on Thursday, November 4th at 7 p.m.
