GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action tonight when they traveled across the river to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were swept by the Panthers in three straight sets (20-25, 11-25, 13-25) to fall to 14-11 on the season and 9-5 in the conference play. With the win, Greenville improves to 20-6 on the season and 14-0 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks finished the match with 21 kills on 35 attacks. They added 42 digs, two service aces, four total blocks, and 19 assists. The Panthers finished with 36 kills on 100 attacks.
Webster came out in the first set and found themselves trailing 13-7 early in the game. They cut the lead down to three late in the set, but the Panthers picked up the final points of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Panthers carried over their momentum into the second game and jumped out to a 14-7 lead. Greenville then ended the set on an 11-4 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Webster's struggles continued into the third as they quickly found themselves trailing by five. They bounced back and cut the lead to two, but a 6-1 run from the Panthers put them up 18-11 late in the game. Greenville picked up the final points of the set and solidified the sweep.
Emma Leppien led the way for the Gorloks as she finished with a team high 10 assists to go along with eight digs.
Kaylee Portell led the attack for Webster as she finished with a team high seven kills.
Tyler Ramstack finished with a team high nine digs while
Cassie Gray added eight. With the eight digs, Gray surpassed 500 on the season making her just the 11
th player in program history to reach the mark.
This marks the end of the 2022 regular season for the volleyball team. They have solidified the third seed in the tournament and will host a quarterfinals match at home on Wednesday, November 2
nd at 7 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
