Gorloks Come Up Short in Final

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this evening when they played host to the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for the 2022 SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Final. The top seeded Gorloks fell to the second seeded Panthers by a final score of 1-0 to fall to 14-3-3 on the season. With the win, the Panthers will advance to the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 18-17 in the contest and put eight shots on target compared to five from Greenville. Webster and Greenville both finished with six corner kicks.

Webster came out in the first half and had a tough time getting anything going as the Panthers controlled the possession. The Gorloks settled in as the half progressed but a goal from Greenville in the 43rd minute gave them a 1-0 lead at the break.

Webster came out in the second half and controlled the possession early. They continued to apply heavy pressure as the half progressed but the Greenville defense were able to keep them out of the back of the net. Robbie Percival had the best chance in the period for Webster as he fired a shot from outside the box off of the crossbar, but that was as close as they Gorloks would get as the Panthers held them off to solidify the win.

Ty Baudendistel was in goal tonight for Webster as he made four saves in the game.

Following the conclusion of the match, the SLIAC announced the 2022 All-Tournament Team. For their efforts, Carlos Llamas and Aamahn Murvin were both recognized.

This marks the end of the scheduled games for the men's soccer team. The regionally ranked Gorloks will have to wait until the NCAA announces the Division III Men's Soccer Tournament field on Monday at 12:30 p.m. to see if they have earned an at-large bid.
