ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Webster Athletics is excited to announce a new partnership with Dr. Henry Givens Jr. Elementary School in the Webster Groves School District.
On December 19
th, Webster Athletics and Givens kicked off this partnership by having Webster student-athletes visit the students during their lunch periods. The day was also spent promoting Webster Reads over Winter Break. Jalen Davis (Men's Basketball), Allen Grahovic (Men's Basketball), and Julie Baudendistel (Women's Basketball) spoke with the students from K-5
th encouraging them to read their required number of books over the break. Students who meet or exceed their challenge will be able to attend the men's and women's basketball games against Fontbonne University on Saturday, January 7
th with a celebratory pizza party to follow.
Beginning in 2023, Webster teams will be matched with classrooms and become adopted Gray Wolves. Over the course of the spring semester, Webster student-athletes will spend time with their adopted classrooms reading to the students, assisting with various activities, and encouraging the students to continue their education. In turn, Givens students will join the Gorloks on campus cheering them on and participating in other activities.
Webster Athletics would like to thank Kate Northcott, Webster University's Director of Student Literacy Corps, for connecting Webster Athletics and Dr. Henry Givens Jr. Elementary School. We are looking forward to working with Principal Malissa Beecham, the teachers and students of Givens in the New Year.
