HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back on the court yesterday as they played the Western New England University Golden Bears and the Washington (M.D.) College Shoreman in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Gorloks split the matches as they defeated the Golden Bears by a final score of 7-2 and then fell to the Shoreman by a final score of 6-2. With the split, the Gorloks improve to 5-6 on the season.
In their first match of the day, the Gorloks were able to sweep the doubles portion of the match.
Kylie Chitwood and
Maddie Mena won #1 doubles as they defeated Aliza McLeish and Arriana Hasiuk by a final score of 8-6.
Emily Casey and
Chloe Daughtry picked up the win in #2 doubles as they defeated Sydney Lewis and Michelle McDermott by a final score of 8-5.
Navone Armstrong and
Emma Ferguson completed the sweep with a forfeit win in #3 doubles.
Erin Brezovar and
Maddie Mena notched wins in the singles portion of the match. Brezovar defeated Aliza McLeish by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2 in #1 singles. Mena picked up a win in #2 singles as she defeated Arriana Hasiuk by final scores of 7-6 and 6-3.
Emily Casey and
Kylie Chitwood won #5 singles and #6 singles by forfeit.
The Gorloks had trouble in their second match of the day as they picked up wins in both #3 doubles and #6 singles due to forfeits.
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood nearly won #2 doubles but were defeated by Alisha White and Bin Nguyen by a final score of 8-6.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Friday, March 25
th when they host Baker (Kan.) University at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The match is set to start at 3 p.m.
