ATLANTA, Ga. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to take on the Emory (Ga.) University Eagles for their final doubleheader of their spring break trip. The Gorloks were swept in the doubleheader as they fell in the first game by a final score of 11-1 and then fell in the second game by a final score of 6-5 in eight innings to fall to 4-7 on the season. With the sweep, the Eagles improve to 10-6 on the year.

The Gorloks had a tough time getting anything doing at the plate in the first game as they were held to just three hits in the contest. The Eagles scored two runs in the first, three runs in the second, four runs in the third, and two runs in the fourth to take an 11-0 advantage. The Gorloks were able to pick up a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Sheyla Iniguez, but the Eagles picked up the final outs of the game to solidify the win.

Braidyn Burr, Yaminah Ragwar-Hayes, and Sarah Shepard pitched in relief of Arias as the three combined to allow three hits and four earned runs while striking out 1 in the final three innings of the game.

Sheldon Underwood led the way at the plate for Webster as she went 2-for-3 in the contest. Sheyla Iniguez picked up the third hit for the Gorloks as she went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Gorloks picked it up in the second game as they put together nine hits in the contest. They got on the board first in the top of the first when Katie Croxall singled to score Sheldon Underwood. The Eagles responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, but a second run from the Gorloks in the top of the third tied the score at two. Webster broke the tie in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Erica Wright, but a run from the Eagles in the bottom half of the innings tied the score at three. The Gorloks retook the lead in the top of the sixth when Emma Bovaconti scored following a Paige Thomas single, but a run from the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh sent the game to extras. Paige Thomas put the Gorloks back up in the top of the eighth with an RBI single, but two runs in the bottom half of the inning solidified the sweep for Emory.
