ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University tennis team was back in action this weekend when they played host to the Mississippi University for Women Owls and the Rhodes (Tenn.) College Lynx. The Gorloks split their matches as they defeated the Owls by a final score of 9-0 and then lost to the Lynx by a final score of 7-2 to improve to 4-4 on the season.
In their first match of the day, the Gorloks won all three of their doubles matches and all six of their singles matches. In #1 doubles,
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins defeated Emma Potter and Mallory Parker by a final score of 8-0.
Emma Ferguson and
Kylie Chitwood defeated Karen Calzadilla and Sarah Kackley in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-4.
Maddie Mena and
Navone Armstrong finished off the doubles sweep in #3 doubles when they defeated Terraline Green and Karina Garcia by a final score of 8-1.
The Gorloks also swept the singles portion of the match.
Erin Brezovar and
Kylie Chitwood led the way as they both won their matches by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0. Brezovar defeated Emma Potter in #1 singles while
Kylie Chitwood defeated Terraline Green in #4 singles. In addition,
Emma Ferguson won #3 singles by a final score do 6-2 and 6-0,
Bailey Higgins won #2 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-3,
Maddie Mena won #5 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0, and
Chloe Daughtry won #6 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-0.
Webster did not fair as well in the second match of the day as they won one doubles match and one singles match. The Gorloks won #1 doubles as
Erin Brezovar and
Bailey Higgins defeated Julia Darkey and Dallas Bennet by a final score of 8-5. Brezovar also won her singles match as she defeated Esme Benjamin in #1 singles. She won the first game by a final score of 6-4 and then fell in the second game by a final score of 7-5 before winnings the tiebreaker by a final score of 10-1.
The Gorloks are back in action on Sunday, March 13
th when they travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina, for their spring break trip. They will play two matches on the 13
th including a 9 a.m. EST start against Nazareth (N.Y.) College and a 2 p.m. EST start against Stockton (N.J.) University.
