Gorloks Fall in Opening Round

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis National Tournament. The Gorloks fell in the opening round to Otterbein (Ohio) University by a final score of 5-0 to fall to 14-12 on the season. With the win, Otterbein will advance to the second round where they will take on Sewanee: The University of the South.

The Gorloks had a tough time getting anything going in the doubles portion of the match as they were swept by a final score of 3-0. Erin Brezovar and Bailey Higgins fell in #1 doubles to Emma Henson and Erin Storrer by a final score of 8-2. Brezovar and Higgins finished the season with a 20-9 record in doubles. Their 20 wins are the most in a single season in program history.

Emma Ferguson and Kylie Chitwood dropped #2 doubles as they fell to Madi Mueller and Lillia Walter by a final score of 8-2. Lastly, Maddie Mena and Emily Casey fell in #3 doubles to Aubrey McMahon and Rachelle Moses by a final score of 8-3 to drop their first doubles match as a pair this season.

In singles, the Gorloks went 0-2 while the remaining six matches went unfinished. Emma Ferguson fell in #2 singles to Lillia Walker by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0 while Bailey Higgins fell in #3 singles to Emma Henson by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.

In #1 singles, Erin Brezovar found herself trialing 6-0 and 2-1 to Erin Storrer before the match was deemed unfinished. Kylie Chitwood trailed in #4 singles to Madi Mueller by a score of 6-1 and 3-0 before the match was ruled unfinished. Maddie Mena trailed Rachelle Moses in #5 singles by scores of 6-0 and 2-1 before it was ruled unfinished. Lastly, Emily Casey trailed in #6 singles to Cassady Shough by scores of 6-0 and 3-1 before it was deemed unfinished.

This marks the end of the 2021-22 Webster University women's tennis season. They finished the year with a 14-12 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's National Tournament for just the fifth time in program history. The team will return to the court in the fall.
