ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University softball team took the field today when they played host to the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for the SLIAC Softball Tournament Quarterfinals. The Gorloks defeated the Red Devils by a final score of 6-0 to improve to 20-14 on the season and advance to the final site for the SLIAC Tournament Semifinals. With the loss, Eureka's season ends with a 14-24 overall record and a 9-11 mark in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Webster put together 10 hits on the day. They got on the board in the bottom of the second when
Katie Croxall grounded out to the shortstop to score
Becka Brissette from third and give Webster a 1-0 lead. The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the next inning as they rallied for four runs to take a 6-0 advantage.
Jaelin Holdaway,
Sheyla Iniguez, and
Lucy St. John all hit RBI doubles in the inning while
Katie Croxall recorded an RBI single. Eureka tried their best to get back into the game, but the Gorloks played tough defense down the stretch to solidify the win.
Reese Waggoner (10-3) pitched a gem in this one as she allowed just two hits while striking out six in her fourth complete game shutout of the season.
Sheyla Iniguez led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Katie Croxall also had a nice game as she went 1-for-4 with two RBI. In addition,
Jaelin Holdaway went 1-for-4 with an RBI and
Lucy St. John went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
The Gorloks have solidified their spot at the final site of the 2022 SLIAC Softball Tournament. The Gorloks will travel to Peoria, Illinois, to take on the second seeded Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles. The game will take place on Thursday, May 5
th at 7 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Complex.
