PEORIA, Ill. – This afternoon the Webster University softball team was back on the diamond when they took on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers in the SLIAC Softball Tournament. The Gorloks were defeated by the Panthers by a final score of 5-3 to fall to 20-16 on the season. With the win, Greenville improved to 21-20 on the year and have advanced in the SLIAC Softball Tournament.
Webster had a tough time getting anything going offensively in this one as they were held to just five hits in the contest. The Panthers got on the board first as they scored one run in the top of the first and four runs in the top of the second to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead. Webster's offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth when 
Ashlee Seltzer singled to center field to score 
Sheyla Iniguez and cut the Greenville lead to 5-1. They added two runs in the bottom of the sixth off of a two-run homerun from 
Paige Thomas, but the Panthers picked up the final outs of the contest to eliminate Webster from the tournament.
Braidyn Burr (1-2) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out two in 1.0 inning. 
Reese Waggoner and 
Sarah Shepard pitched in relief as they two combined to allow five hits while striking out two in the final 6.0 innings of the contest.
Paige Thomas led the way at the plate as she hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth for her team leading fifth homerun of the season. In addition, 
Ashlee Seltzer went 1-for-3 with an RBI while 
Katie Croxall, 
Sidney Holtz, and 
Sheyla Iniguez each added a hit in the game.
This marks the end of the 2022 Webster University softball season. The Gorloks finished the year with a 20-16 overall record and a 15-5 mark in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Their 15 conference wins matched a program record while their back-to-back 20-win seasons are the first since 2011. They placed 11 on the SLIAC All-Conference teams while 
Katie Griffith was named SLIAC Coach of the Year, 
Reese Waggoner was named SLIAC Pitcher of the Year, and 
Katie Croxall was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. The team will return to the field next spring.
