ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University baseball team has been named an American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award recipient. The award, which is presented by Sports Attack, recognizes teams from every level of college and high school baseball who have a team cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Gorloks finished the 2021-22 school year with 10 players that had a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. They were the only program in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to win the award.
"I'm so proud of the hard work that our guys put in in the classroom and on the field last year." Said Webster University Head Baseball Coach,
Bill Kurich. "You can't have success on the field if it doesn't start in the classroom."
There were over 250 high school programs and 420 collegiate programs that were recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Of the 420 collegiate programs, 154 of them came from the NCAA Division III level.
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 36 countries.
