CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Webster University men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Crawfordsville, Indiana, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots in their first game of the Robbie Dreher Classic at Wabash (Ind.) College. The Gorloks defeated the Fighting Scots by a final score of 5-0 to improve to 1-1-1 on the season. With the loss, Monmouth drops to 0-4-1 on the year.
The Gorloks outshot the Fighting Scots by a final tally of 19-5 and put 11 shots on target compared to one from Monmouth. They finished the game with four corner kicks while Monmouth finished with two.
It did not take long for the Gorloks to pick up their first goal of the season as
Isaac Pearson was able to score his first of the year in the 16
th minute.
Noah Abraham capitalized on a Fighting Scots turnover and was able to play the ball forward to Pearson who touched it around the keeper and into the back of the net to give Webster a 1-0 lead.
The Gorloks continued to play well in the second half and were able to extend their lead in the 69
th minute on
Brendan Pagan's first goal of the season.
Aamahn Murvin,
Noah Thomas, and
Marco Donjuan finished off the scoring for Webster as they each scored their first goals of the season within an 11-minute stretch.
Patrick Fuller and
Noah Thomas both recorded an assist.
Ty Baudendistel (1-0) made his collegiate debut in goal for Webster as he recorded one save in his first career shutout.
The Gorloks return to the pitch tomorrow, September 11
th, when they finish up play in the Robbie Dreher Classic. They will take on Wabash (Ind.) College at 4 p.m. EDT in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
