ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This evening the Webster University women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled across town to take on the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks were defeated by the Griffins by a final score of 2-0 to fall to 3-4 on the season and 0-2 in SLIAC play. With the win, Fontbonne improves to 2-1-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.
The Gorloks were outshot 19-9 on the night and put two shots on target compared to nine from the Griffins. Fontbonne also won the corner count as they finished with nine while the Gorloks finished with one.
The Griffins got on the board early in this one as they scored in the 16
th minute of the game to give themselves a 1-0 lead. They added to their lead just a minute later as they scored in the 17
th minute to push their lead to 2-0 in the game.
The Gorloks did their best to get back into the game in the second half but were unable to get anything going as the Griffins closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Taryn Banfield was in goal for Webster as she recorded seven saves in the match.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Wednesday, September 21
st when they host the Blackburn (Ill.) College Beavers for their first SLIAC home game of the season. The match is set to kick-off at 5 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
