ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's tennis team kicked off their fall season this afternoon when they played host to Illinois College and Oakland City (Ind.) University. The Gorloks won both matches as they defeated Illinois College by a final score of 9-0 and Oakland City by a final score of 5-4 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

After a rain delayed start, the Gorloks were able to move indoors and sweep Illinois College by a final score of 9-0. They got off to a good start in doubles as Erin Brezovar and Bailey Higgins defeated Michelle Magg and Lily Ingram in #1 doubles by a final score of 8-5. Maddie Mena and Kylie Chitwood added to the Gorloks lead as they defeated Hanna Lueke and Mikhayla Haloftis in #2 doubles by a final score of 8-1. Madeleine Olejnik and Emily Casey completed the doubles sweep as they defeated Shya Prescott and Lydia Criveau in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-4.

Erin Brezovar got the sweep started in the singles portion of the match as she defeated Michelle Magg in #1 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Bailey Higgins took #2 singles over Hannah Lueke by final scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Kylie Chitwood defeated Lily Ingram in #3 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Maddie Mena carried over her success from last season into this season as she defeated Mikhayla Haloftis in #4 singles by final scores of 3-6, 6-0, and 10-8. Bailee Pineda won a close match in #5 singles as she defeated Shya Prescott by final scores of 7-6 (3), 4-6, and 10-2. Madeleine Olejnik completed the sweep for Webster as she took #6 singles with back-to-back scores of 6-3.

After dropping #1 doubles in their match against Oakland City, the Gorloks bounced back in #2 doubles and #3 doubles. Maddie Mena and Kylie Chitwood took #2 doubles over Laynie Graham and Tiana Sparks by a final score of 8-3. Emily Casey and Madeleine Olejnik won #3 doubles over Kaleigh Helm and Audrey Wilson by a final score of 8-6.

The Gorloks picked up three wins in the singles portion of the match to solidify the win over the Mighty Oaks. Maddie Mena defeated Kaleigh Helm in #4 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 4-1 before Helm was forced to retire from the match. Bailee Pineda won #5 singles over Emily Patterson by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Lastly, Emily Casey completed the victory for the Gorloks as she won #6 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, September 10^th when they travel to Franklin, Indiana, to take on Trine (Ind.) University and Franklin (Ind.) College. The matches will take place at the Hoover Tennis Complex on the campus of Franklin College. The first match is set to start at 2 p.m. with the second to follow at 5:30 p.m.
