ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled down Big Bend Road to take on the #12 Washington (Mo.) University Bears. The Gorloks were swept by the Bears in three sets (5-25, 16-25, 17-25) to fall to 13-12 on the season. With the win. WashU improves to 19-7 on the year.
The Gorloks finished with 20 kills on 98 attacks for a .020 attacking percentage. They added one service ace, three blocks, 18 assists, and 57 digs. The Bears recorded 42 kills on 115 attacks for a .278 attacking percentage.
After dropping the first set 25-5, Webster came out in the second set and found themselves trailing 14-2 early. They battled back and cut the lead to six, but a 5-2 run from the Bears to end the set gave them a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Gorloks picked it up to start the third and found themselves trailing just 13-10 midway through the game. The Bears would extend their lead to six over the next few rallies and held off Webster down the stretch to solidify the win.
Lauren Borik led the way for Webster as she recorded a match high 25 digs.
Madison Katz led the team offensively as she finished with a team high five kills. In addition,
Ellie Biedenstein recorded a team high nine assists to go with six digs.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Saturday, October 28
th when they host the Mississippi University for Women Owls and the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for their final home tri-match of the season. Webster will play the Owls at 10 a.m. and the Panthers at 2 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium. Prior to the Gorloks first match, the team will celebrate their seniors for Senior Day.
