Gorloks Win Fourth Straight

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action back in action this evening when they played host to the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Blue Jays in four sets (23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19) to improve to 7-9 on the season and 5-1 in the SLIAC. With the loss, Westminster drops to 8-9 on the year and 4-2 in conference play.

The Gorloks finished with 45 kills on 142 attacks for a .218 attacking percentage. They added 11 service aces, 42 assists, 14 blocks, and 60 digs. The Blue Jays finished with 52 kills on 154 attacks for a .130 attacking percentage.

After dropping a close first set, Webster came out in the second set and jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Blue Jays would answer with a 15-7 run and held a four point advantage midway through the game. The Gorloks battled back and responded with a 10-3 run of their to take a 21-18 advantage late in the frame. Westminster would cut the lead to 24-23, but Webster would score the final point of the game to tie the match at one.

The Gorloks carried over their momentum into the third set and held an 8-4 advantage early. Westminster would tie the score at 11, but a 5-0 run from the Gorloks would give them a 16-11 lead midway through the game. The Blue Jays would cut the lead to three but that was as close as they would get as the Gorloks closed them out down the stretch to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Webster once again came out in the fourth set and jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead. They would push their lead to as many as seven in the set and never let the Blue Jays back in the game.

Alyssa Jones led the way for the Gorloks as she recorded 10 kills to go along with a career high nine blocks. Tyler Ramstack led the attack for Webster as she finished with a team high 12 kills. Delaney Demman and Ellie Biedenstein ran the offense for the Gorloks as they recorded 22 and 16 assists, respectively. Demman also added 12 digs to go along with a team high 23 digs from Lauren Borik. In addition, Grace White and Olivia Powell each recorded six blocks while Megan Zablonski had a match high five service aces.

Webster will return to the court on Saturday, October 7th when they travel to Elsah, Illinois, to take on the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles and the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a SLIAC tri-match. The Gorloks will play the Golden Eagles at noon and the Panthers at 2 p.m. with both matches taking place at Principia College.
