Gorloks Swept at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Bloomington, Illinois, to take on the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans for their last nonconference matchup of the season. The Gorloks were swept by the Titans in three sets (11-25, 8-25, 21-25) to drop to 15-13 on the season. With the win, the Titans move to 15-12 on the year.

Webster finished with 17 kills on 89 attacks for a .000 attacking percentage. They added three service aces, four blocks, 15 assists, and 35 digs. Illinois Wesleyan recorded 43 kills on 96 attacks for a .313 attacking percentage.

Webster came out in the first set and found themselves trailing 10-3 early. They scored the next two points to cut the lead to five but another run from the Titans put them up 21-8 late in the frame. Illinois Wesleyan picked up the final points of the set and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

After dropping the second set 25-8, Webster bounced back in the third set and found themselves trailing just 12-11 midway through the game. The Titans picked it up as the set progressed and went on a 11-4 run to take a 23-15 lead late in the frame. Webster would cut the lead to three, but the Titans would score the final point of the set to solidify the sweep.

Ellie Biedenstein and Lauren Borik led the way for Webster as Biedenstein recorded a team high 12 digs while Borik had nine. Delaney Demman led the team with seven assists while Alyssa Jones, Ellie Biedenstein, Megan Zablonski, and Tyler Ramstack all recorded a team high three kills.

The Gorloks will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, November 4th when they travel to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers and the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC tri-match. Webster will take on Greenville at 10 a.m. and Westminster at 12 p.m. with both matches taking place at Westminster College.
