Gorloks Season Ends in SLIAC Semifinals

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Webster University volleyball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville (Ill.) University Panthers for the SLIAC Volleyball Semifinals. The fourth seeded Gorloks were defeated by the top seeded Panthers in three sets (14-25, 22-25, 16-25) to fall to 16-16 on the season. With the win, the Panthers advanced to the championship game where they will take on Fontbonne (Mo.) University.

Webster finished with 29 kills on 116 attacks for a .060 attacking percentage. They added one service ace, six blocks, 24 assists, and 44 digs. Greenville finished with 38 kills on 113 attacks for a .186 attacking percentage.

After dropping the first set 25-14, Webster bounced back to start the second set and jumped out to a 13-9 lead. They continued to play well as the set progressed and held a 20-15 advantage late in the frame. Greenville would battle back and tie the score at 20, and then end the game on a 5-2 run to take a 2-0 match advantage.

Webster came out in the third set and matched the Panthers point-for-point. With the score tied at 11, Greenville went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-13 lead late in the frame. Greenville would pick up the final points of the set and solidify their spot in the SLIAC Championship game.

Alyssa Jones led the way offensively for Webster as she recorded a team high eight kills. Delaney Demman and Ellie Biedenstein ran the offense as they recorded 14 and nine assists, respectively. Demman also recorded nine digs to go along with a team high 12 digs from Lauren Borik.

This marks the end 2023 Webster University volleyball season. They finished the year with a 16-16 overall record and a 13-5 mark in conference play to finish fourth in the SLIAC regular season standings. They will return to the court next fall.
