Gorloks Fall in SLIAC Semifinals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team kicked off postseason play tonight when they hosted the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for the SLIAC Women's Soccer Championship Semifinals. The Gorloks were defeated by the Golden Eagles by a final score of 3-0 to move to 11-4-1 on the season. With the win, Spalding will advance to the SLIAC Women's Soccer Championship Final on Saturday.

The Gorloks outshot the Golden Eagles 25-7 in the game and put 12 shots on target compared to three from Spalding. Webster also led in the corner count as they had seven while Spalding had three.

Webster came out in the first half and took it to the Golden Eagles in the first few minutes of the game. Spalding settled in as the half progressed and scored on a counterattack in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Gorloks turned up the pressure after the goal and created several dangerous scoring chances in the half but were unable to capitalize as the score remained 1-0 at the break.

The Golden Eagles came out in the second half and quickly extended the lead to 3-0 in the first five minutes of the period. Webster picked up the intensity as the half progressed but were unable to create dangerous scoring chances for most of the period. The Golden Eagles held the Gorloks off the board down the final stretch of the game and solidified their spot in the conference final.

This marks the end of the scheduled games for the Gorloks. They finish the year with a 11-4-1 overall record and an 8-0 mark in conference play. They won their 16th SLIAC Regular Season Title in program history and earned the top seed in the SLIAC Championships. They will have to wait to see if they have done enough to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Monday, November 6th.
