FULTON, Mo. - The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Fulton, Missouri, to take on the Westminster (Mo.) College Blue Jays for a SLIAC matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Blue Jays by a final score of 12-1 (5 inn.) to improve to 17-17 on the season and 11-4 in the SLIAC. With the loss, Westminster drops to 3-33 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in the game as they rallied for three runs, including a two-run homerun from
Paige Thomas (2), to give themselves a 3-0 lead. The Blue Jays answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but a run in the top of the second would push Webster's lead back out to three. The Gorloks would then go on to score seven runs in the top of the third, including a three-run homerun from
Paige Thomas (3), to push their lead to 11-1 in the game. Webster would score one final run in the top of the fourth and close out the Blue Jays in the final innings to solidify the win.
Kaley Adzick (6-8) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed just three hits while striking out one in her fourth complete game of the season.
Webster rallied for 13 hits in the contest.
Paige Thomas led the way at the plate as she pushed her hitting streak to 20 straight games after going 2-for-4 with two homeruns (3) and five RBI.
Jaelin Holdaway,
Kaley Adzick, and
Katie Croxall all recorded multi-hit games as Holdaway went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Adzick went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Croxall went 2-for-3 with an RBI. In addition,
Madi Stichling went 1-for-3 with an RBI,
Kaelyn Kearney went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and
Sidney Holtz added an RBI for the Gorloks.
The Gorloks return to the diamond for their final home game of the season on Wednesday, May 3
rd when they host Greenville (Ill.) University. The two teams will play a single game starting at 4:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Academy.
