Gorloks Season Ends in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this afternoon when they continued play in the SLIAC Softball Tournament in Peoria, Illinois. The Gorloks dropped two games on the day as they fell to the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles by a final score of 5-4 and the Fontbonne (Mo.) University Griffins by a final score of 2-1 to end their season with a 21-20 overall record.

In their first game of the day against the Golden Eagles, neither side was able to get anything going through the first two innings. The Golden Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the third as they rallied for four runs to take a 4-0 advantage. Webster tied the score in the top of the third thanks to back-to-back RBI doubles from Jaelin Holdaway and Paige Thomas, but a run from Spalding in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference in the game.

Reese Waggoner (7-4) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed nine hits and three earned runs while striking out four in 6.2 innings pitched.

Webster finished with six hits in the game. Paige Thomas led the way as she went 2-for-4 with two RBI. In addition, Jaelin Holdway went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Lucy St. John went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In their second game of the day, Webster got off to a great start as Kaley Adzick hit an RBI single in the top of the first to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead. The Griffins would tie the score in the bottom of the second, and then went on to score a run in the bottom of the seventh to solidify their spot in the SLIAC Softball Tournament Final.

Reese Waggoner (7-5) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed just five hits and an earned run while striking two in 6.0 innings pitched.

Webster tallied five hits in the contest. Katie Croxall led the way as she went 2-for-4 with a run scored. In addition, Kaley Adzick went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Aven Ragwar-Hayes went 1-for-3, and Lucy St. John went 1-for-3.

This marks the end the Webster University softball season. They ended the year with a 21-20 overall record and a 13-5 mark in SLIAC play. They will return to the diamond next spring.
