Gorloks Extend Win Streak To Five Matches With SLIAC Victory Over Owls

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University volleyball team continued conference play hosting the Owls of Mississippi University for Women Friday evening in Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks extended their win streak to five matches with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Owls. With the victory, the Gorloks moved back to .500 overall at 9-9 and improved to 3-4 in conference play.

Set 1: Webster 25, MUW 11

Webster and MUW started the match back-and-forth to the Gorlok advantage at 3-2. Moments later, the Gorloks erupted for a 12-1 run that included runs of 5-0 and 7-0 to the set-score of 15-3 that was started on a kill by Grace White.

In the combination of both runs, White added two more kills, earned two assisted blocks with her teammate Alyssa Jones, and collected a solo block. In addition, Delaney Morio contributed a service ace, Jones collected a kill, and White capped it off with a kill.

The Gorloks and Owls continued the set by exchanging 3-0 runs to the set-score of 18-6. In the Webster run, White and the reigning SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in Jaycee Lewis each tallied a kill.

The Owls cut the Gorlok lead down to ten at 19-9 with a 4-1 run as the Webster point was on a kill by Eva Tarlos. However, the Gorloks closed out the final six points of the set with two 3-0 runs that included kills by Lauren Harms and Leah McGrath and service ace by Harms.

Set 2: Webster 25, MUW 16

The Gorloks jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the second set that included a kill by Tarlos. Webster and MUW rallied the set to the same margin of three at 10-7. In the rally, Megan Zablonski and White each hammered down a kill.

Following a kill by MUW's MC Brown, the Gorloks erupted for a 10-3 run that increased the lead to double-digits at 20-10. Tarlos started the run with back-to-back kills as Harms and White contributed two each while Zablonski and Jones each tallied a kill. With a nine-point advantage at 23-14, Morio achieved set-point with a kill as Tarlos closed the set out with a kill.

Set 3: Webster 25, MUW 16

Webster and MUW opened the final set with a back-and-forth battle as the set rallied to a one-point Gorlok advantage at 7-6. Moments later, Tarlos started and closed out a 3-0 run that gave Webster the 10-6 lead with kills as Ellie Biedenstein laid down a perfect set for a kill in between Tarlos' kills. The Owls rallied back and cut the lead to two at 12-10 on a kill by Kendall Clay.

Following that kill by Clay, the Gorloks immediately countered with a 6-1 run to the set-score of 18-12 that included kills by Morio and Lauren Brown. With the 20-14 advantage, Webster closed out the match with a 5-1 run that started on a kill by Tyler Ramstack. In addition to the Ramstack kill, McGrath added back-to-back kills while Zablonski tallied a kill when Tarlos closed out the match with a kill.

For the match, White and Tarlos led the offensive attack with 10 kills each while Zablonski added four. The duo of Biedenstein and Morio combined for 28 assists led by Biedenstein with 15. Defensively, Lewis collected a match-high 14 digs while White recorded four blocks.

The Gorloks will continue SLIAC play and start a three-match road stand with a visit to Greenville University on Tuesday, October 15 starting at 6:00PM in Greenville, Illinois.
