Gorloks End Regular Season With Scoreless Draw To Westminster; Advancing to SLIAC Tournament

FULTON, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer concluded the 2024 regular season with a visit to Westminster College Wednesday evening. The Gorloks battled the Blue Jays to a scoreless tie which extended the unbeaten streak to eight matches. With the tie, the Gorloks secured a regular season overall record of 11-1-4 which includes an undefeated 6-0-2 conference record. 

The Gorloks have advanced to postseason play and earned a first round bye in the 2024 SLIAC Tournament by finishing in second place in the regular season.


In the opening minutes of the match, Webster advanced the ball into the attacking zone and earned a corner kick but no shot was recorded from the attempt. Ten minutes later, the Gorloks sent the ball back into the offensive side of the pitch that resulted in a shot on goal by Malaya Blakely. However, her shot was saved by WC's goalkeeper Reagen Chigas.

Just over two minutes later, in the 14th minute, the Blue Jays countered with an offensive drive that resulted in a shot by Annalise Beck but went out left. Shortly later, in the 24th minute, the Gorloks had another scoring opportunity when Grace Rodgers ripped a shot toward the net, but the shot went out high.

In the 30th minute, the Blue Jays answered with another scoring opportunity which came off the foot of Destynee Orf but her shot went out high. Five minutes later, the Gorloks sent the ball in the attacking zone that resulted in a shot out wide by Claire Thurmond. In the final minutes of the first half, Rodgers blasted a shot on goal which was saved by Chigas as Isabella Dickneite added another shot. Webster and Westminster went into the halftime break all knotted at zero apiece. 

Five minutes into the second half, the Gorloks attacked the Blue Jays defense which resulted in a shot out high by Mya Stegen. Less than a minute later, Webster had another great scoring opportunity when Blakely put a shot on goal but the shot was saved by Chigas. 

Shortly later, in the 65th minute, Webster sent the ball into the attacking zone which resulted in a scoring opportunity by Jasmine Hubbard w but her shot was saved by Chigas. For the remainder of the match, the Gorloks added two shots from Thurmond and Blakely but both attempts went wide left. 

For the match, Blakely led the offensive attack with three shots while Rodgers and Thurmond had two shots each. Defensively, the Gorloks allowed just one shot on goal as the shot was saved by Courtney Haneline

The Gorloks will play in the SLIAC semi finals match at home on Wednesday, November 6 facing the winner of the  Westminster College and Principia College match.
