JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The women's tennis team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on Illinois College for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Lady Blues by a final score of 8-1 to improve to 9-5 on the season. With the loss, Illinois College falls to 8-10 on the year.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in doubles as they took #1 and #2 doubles to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Bailey Higgins and
Kylie Chitwood won #1 doubles as they defeated Michelle Maag and Lily Ingram by a final score of 8-4.
Bailee Pineda and
Evie Schuetz took #2 doubles over Hannah Lueke and Sabrina Ingram by a final score of 8-3.
Webster carried their momentum over into singles and were able to sweep all six points.
Kylie Chitwood won #1 singles by final scores of 4-6, 7-5, and 10-6.
Bailey Higgins took #2 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Maddie Mena won #3 singles by final scores of 4-6, 6-3, and 10-8.
Bailee Pineda captured #4 singles by final scores of 2-6, 6-3, and 10-3.
Evie Schuetz won #5 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Lastly,
Chloe Daughtry took #6 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-4.
The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, March 27
th when they take on Kaskaskia (Ill.) College for an exhibition match. The match will take place at 3 p.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
