BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Webster University baseball team was back in action last night when they traveled to Bloomington, Illinois, to take on Aurora (Ill.) University for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks fell to the Spartans by a final score of 9-6 to fall to 16-16 on the season. With the win, Aurora improves to 26-8 on the year.
It was a back-and-forth game to start as both teams scored four runs through the first two innings. The Spartans would break the tie in the bottom of the fourth with two runs, but a sacrifice fly from
Nick Schumacher in the top of the fifth cut the Spartans lead to 6-5. Aurora would go on to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Gorloks to just one more run in the game to solidify the win.
Jacob Maza got the start in this one as he allowed two hits and three earned runs in 1.1 innings.
Shane LeJeune-DeAcutis,
Michael Ellis (0-1), and
Cade Gebhard pitched in relief as the three combined to allow seven hits and four earned runs while striking out four in 6.2 innings.
Webster put together 13 hits in the game.
James Theodore led the way as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Evan Evola,
Parker Murrow, and
Andrew Fazio also recorded multi-hit games as Evola went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Murrow went 2-for-5 with a run scored, and Fazio went 2-for-4 with a run scored. In addition,
Karl Peters went 1-for-5 with a three-run homerun (9),
Nick Schumacher went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and
R.J. LaRocco went 1-for-5 with an RBI to round out the top performers for Webster.
The Gorloks will return to the diamond on Saturday, April 27
th when they travel across town to take on Fontbonne (Mo.) University for a SLIAC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at noon with the second game to follow.
