LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Webster University softball team was back in action this morning when they played the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC Tournament elimination game. The third seeded Gorloks fell to the fourth seeded Golden Eagles by a final score of 7-2 to end their season with a 25-14-1 overall record.
The Golden Eagles got off to a fast start in this one as they scored two runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. The Gorloks would tie the score in the bottom half of the inning thanks to two-run homerun from
Paige Thomas (5), but three runs in the top of the second and two runs in the top of the fourth proved to be the difference for the Golden Eagles.
Braidyn Burr (6-4) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs while striking out four in 4.0 innings.
Ainsley Hinz and
Reese Waggoner pitched in relief as the two combined to not allow a hit while striking out three in the final 3.0 innings of the game.
Webster recorded just six hits in the game. Page Thomas and
Emma Bovaconti led the way for the Gorloks as Thomas went 1-for-4 with a two-run homerun (5) while Bovaconti went 2-for-3. In addition,
Katie Croxall,
Kaelyn Kearney, and
Lucy St. John each added a hit.
This marks the end of the 2024 season for the Gorloks. The team finished third in the SLIAC regular season standings while recording a 25-14-1 overall record and 11-5 mark in conference play. The team will return to the diamond next spring.
