Gorloks Secure Road Victory Over Eutectics In Straight Sets

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University volleyball team traveled across town for a non-conference decision at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Tuesday night. The Gorloks blanked the Eutectics in straight sets by the final score of 3-0. With the victory, the Gorloks moved back to .500 overall at 4-4 on the season.

This match started off with both teams exchanging kills as Eva Tarlos, Jaycee Lewis, Olivia Powell, and Megan Zablonski each tallied a kill to the set score of 10 apiece. With the match knotted at 11 all, the Eutectics went on a 4-0 run that was snapped on a kill by Alyssa Jones to the three-point deficit of 12-15.

Webster and UHSP continued to battle back-and-forth as the Eutectics increased their lead to four at 13-17. The Gorloks countered with a 6-0 run that started on a kill by Delaney Morio that was followed up with back-to-back kills by Zablonski. The run was capped off on a service ace by Ellie Biedenstein as her point gave Webster the 20-19 advantage.

The Gorloks and Eutectics fought fiercely for the final points of the set as Webster's Tarlos dropped a perfect service ace for the final point that granted a 25-22 set victory for the Gorloks.

The second set started off with back-to-back points by the Eutectics but the Gorloks quickly answered with a 5-1 run for the two-point advantage at 5-3. In the run, Jones and Tarlos got their hands on a double-block while Leah McGrath and Powell capped it off with back-to-back kills.

UHSP fought back and tied the set at seven apiece. Moments later, the Gorlok erupted for an 8-2 run that started on a kill by Morio as Grace White added two kills for the 15-9 advantage. Immediately following the Gorloks run, the Eutectics countered with a 7-1 run that tied the set at 16 apiece.

Late in the set, the Gorloks went on a 4-1 run that started on a kill by Jones as Powell and Zablonski each added a kill to the set score of 21-18. Webster and UHSP continued to fight hard as Tarlos closed out the set with a 25-22 victory with back-to-back kills.

The Eutectics started off the final set with the early 2-0 advantage when the Gorloks countered with a 4-0 run that included a kill by Lauren Harms to the set score of 4-2. Both teams kept the battle going and rallied to a tie at eight apiece.

Moments later, the Gorloks silenced the crowd and opened up the set with a 6-1 run that started on a kill by Morio. After the lone point by UHSP in the run, Webster added three consecutive points on kills by Tarlos, White, and Powell. Tarlos closed out the run and made the score 16-10 with back-to-back service aces.

In the middle portion of the set, both teams exchanged points to the seven-point Webster advantage at 19-12. The Gorloks closed out the match with a 6-0 run that started on a kill by Powell and finalized on a kill by Harms for the victory.

For the match, the Gorloks were led offensively by Tarlos and Powell with six kills each as Whited added five. Defensively, Lewis led with a game-high 13 digs while Biedenstein collected nine. At the net, Powell achieved a season-best five blocks while Jones eliminated four attacks.

The Gorloks will open conference play on the road visiting the Red Devils of Eureka College on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00PM in Eureka, Illinois.
