Women’s Soccer Earn 1-1 Draw With Warriors On Sunday

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's soccer team closed out a three-game homestand with a 1-1 draw against the Warriors of Hendrix College on Sunday at WWT Soccer Park. The lone Gorloks goal came off the foot of Malaya Blakely early in the second half.

This non-conference decision got off to a slow start as both teams battled back-and-forth trying to gain possession of the ball. In the 12th minute, senior Mackenzie Sundhausen had a fantastic opportunity to score when she ripped a shot just outside the 18 that just missed wide left. A minute later, Grace Rodgers fired a shot on goal but it was saved by Kennedy Lewis.

For the remainder of the first half, the Warriors blasted four shots toward the net as Courtney Haneline recorded two saves that led to a scoreless halftime score.

However, the Gorloks came out in the second half very aggressive on offense that featured five shots on net within the first 10 minutes led by Blakely with three as Payton Montana added two. In the 57th minute and on an offensive attack by the Gorloks, Montana delivered a fantastic flick off her head to Blakely in stride when Blakely blasted a left footed strike just outside the 18 to the back of the net that gave Webster the 1-0 advantage.

In the 61st minute, the Warriors had a great opportunity to tie that match on a strike from Madison Lampkin as the shot was saved by Riley Cappozzo. However, in the 84th minute, Hendrix tied the game with a goal from Clara Sullivan.

In the final minute of play, the Gorloks had a late offensive drive that found the foot of Rodgers as her shot went just wide that granted the draw.

For the match, Blakely led the offensive attack with four shots while Rodgers added three. Goalkeeper Haneline recorded four saves.

The Gorloks will hit the road to Decatur, Illinois on Wednesday, September 11 for a non-conference match against the Big Blue starting at 7:00 PM.
