A Trio Of Gorloks Net A Goal In 3-1 Victory Over Principia

FENTON, Mo. - The Webster University men's soccer team continued the three-game homestand with the middle stanza decision against Principia College. The Gorloks scored two goals in the first half from Juan Ignacio Martins Ferreira and Immanuel Nwosu and one in the second half from Blake Cain which led to a 3-1 victory over the Panthers. With the victory, Webster improves to 4-6-1 and 2-2 in conference play. 

In the opening 10 minutes of the match, Webster and Principia battled back-and-forth as the Gorloks defended off a corner kick and a shot. Two minutes later, the Gorloks responded with a counter attack that resulted in a shot on goal by Ignacio Martins Ferreira but it was saved. In the 16th minute, the Panthers registered their first shot on goal but it was saved by Luke Dillon. 

Four minutes later, in the 20th minute, Principia added another shot on goal but Dillon secured the save. Approximately 30 seconds later, Alberto Duque Gonzalez collected the ball near the midline and sent in a fantastic chip entry pass to Ignacio Martins Ferreira in the box. Moments later, Ignacio Martins Ferreira chipped the ball over the Panthers goalkeeper's head for the goal that put Webster on top at 1-0. 

For the next 15 minutes of play, Webster and Principia battled back-and-forth as both teams recorded two shots; the Gorloks attempts came from Ignacio Martins Ferreira and Duque Gonzales but both attempts missed. In the final moments of the first half, Webster added a counter attack that resulted in a corner kick. On the corner kick, it was a short pass to Luke Walsh when he sent in a cross that found the head of Nwosu for the goal and the 2-0 halftime advantage. 

The Gorloks came out in the second half with the same offensive aggressiveness which resulted in shots on goal from defenders Niklas Storck and Danny Nusinovic but both attempts were saved. Shortly later, in the 64th minute, Hayden Hatley launched a throw-in to Nwosu when Nwosu flicked a pass to Cain. Moments later, Cain dribbled through two Panthers defenders and trickled the ball past the Principia's goalkeeper for the goal which pushed the lead to 3-0. 

Over the next 15 minutes of action, the Panthers added two offensive attacks which resulted in two saves by Dillon. In the 81st minute, Principia added their lone goal of the match which eventually generated the final score. 

For the match, Ignacio Martins Ferreira recorded a game-high four shots while eight other Gorloks recorded one shot. Both teams had exactly 12 total shots that included six shots on goal. In net, Dillon recorded five saves and his fourth victory of the season.
