Men’s Soccer Conclude Season In SLIAC Semifinals

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University men's soccer team opened postseason play in the 2025 SLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament with a semifinals matchup against Lyon College. The Gorloks battled hard but fell to the Scots by the score of 0-3 that concluded their season. Webster ends their season with a 8-7-1 overall record and a 6-2 in conference play. 

In the opening minutes of play, Webster put pressure on the Lyon's defense with two early corner kicks but no shot was found on either attempt. Moments later, in the fifth minute, the Scots added an attack that resulted in a save by goalkeeper Luke Dillon. Less than three minutes later, in the seventh minute, the Gorloks recorded an attack when Elias Ibanez-Silva put a shot on goal but it was saved by Gabriel Rangel. 

Late in the ninth and 12th minutes, forward Marcos Gonzales-Collado recorded two shots but neither attempt made it on net. Shortly later, in the 19th minute, the Gorloks orchestrated an attack that resulted in a shot on goal by Alberto Duque Gonzalez but it was saved by Rangel. 

In the next minutes of play, Webster added two scoring opportunities with a shot on goal by Scott Price (saved) and a shot by Juan Ignacio Martins Ferreira that missed right. Shortly later, in the 28th and 29th minutes, the Scots had two looks at the net as both shots missed out high.

For the next 13 minutes of action, Webster and Lyon battled between the endlines and kept the match scoreless. In the 42nd minute, the Gorloks added an attack that resulted in a foul in the box by Lyon for a penalty kick. Moments later, Gonzales-Collado took the penalty shot and just missed that kept the match scoreless. Less than a minute later, in the 43rd minute, the Gorloks orchestrated a counter attack when first-year forward Blake Cain had a great chance at the net but his shot hit the cross bar that kept scoreless at the halftime break. 

Lyon opened the second half with the kickoff and advanced the ball into Gorlok territory for a corner kick. On the corner kick, the Scots headed the ball down and the ball found the back of the net that broke the scoreless match. Shortly later, in the 52nd minute, Lyon added a counter attack that resulted in a goal. Approximately, one minute later following the Lyon goal, Webster added an attack when Duque Gonzalez ripped a shot toward the net that just missed the left post. 

In the 63rd and 66th minutes, Cain had two chances at goal as his first attempt missed high and the second attempt was saved by Rangel. Less than two minutes later, Hayden Hatley ripped a shot but it missed right. Moments later, in the 70th minute, the Scots countered with an attack when the ball was batted around in the box when Lyon netted a short-range goal. Shortly later, in the 71st minute, the Gorloks added an attack that resulted in a shot by Price but just missed high. Less than two minutes later, in the 73rd minute, Webster sent the ball back into the attacking zone that resulted in a shot by Duque Gonzalez but it just missed left. 

For the next eight minutes of play, Webster and Lyon battled between the endlines as neither team recorded a shot. In the 82nd minute, the Gorloks added an attack that resulted in a corner kick but no shot was found on the corner. Late in the 86th minute, Ferreira added the final shot of the match for Webster. 

For the match, Gonzales-Collado and Duque Gonzalez led the team with four shots each while Cain contributed three. The Gorloks had four shots on goal which came from Price, Ibanez-Silva, Duque Gonzalez, and Cain. In net, Dillon recorded one save.
